Good morning.

We’re 16 days away from Vanderbilt’s season opener against Middle Tennessee. There are two 16’s on the roster. Freshman defensive back BJ Anderson was a late addition to the 2018 signing class from Andalusia, Alabama, where he was a high school teammate of redshirt freshman Allan George. Junior wide receiver Kalija Lipscomb is the Commodores’ leading returning receiver after catching 37 passes for 610 yards and eight touchdowns in 2017.

And we’re zero days away from Vanderbilt soccer’s season opener. The Commodores open the 2018 regular season at Florida State at 6:00 PM CT. Thus officially ends the Vanderbilt athletics offseason, and the 2018-19 athletic season begins. Hooray! We’re not aware of any television coverage or streaming for tonight’s game, however. Head coach Darren Ambrose talks about the season opener (and the second game this weekend at Jacksonville) on YouTube:

Also, our own Shawn Allen previewed the soccer team last week.

Vanderbilt golfers John Augenstein, Will Gordon, and Harrison Ott advanced to the Round of 32 at the U.S. Amateur on Wednesday. Today, Gordon faces Zheng Kai Bai at 11:00 AM CT; Augenstein plays McClure Meissner at 11:50 AM; and Ott plays Viktor Hovland at 12:20 PM. Should any of the three advance, they’ll play in the Round of 16 on Thursday afternoon.

Over at the Tennessean, Adam Sparks talks offensive line play with offensive coordinator Andy Ludwig.

Tweet of the Day

Off the West End

Didn’t take long for the Marlins and the Braves to get down to business.

More importantly, though, Dansby Swanson hit a go-ahead two-run homer in the Braves’ 5-2 win:

And for the second day in a row, LSU lost a quarterback to transfer.
