‘Dores Showing Out at the US Amateur

The last major of the season has been completed and the FEDEX Playoffs start tomorrow. Several former Vanderbilt Golfers are competing on professional tours world wide this week, but this week’s edition will focus on the four current golfers at the US Amateur held at Pebble Beach Golf Links.

US Amateur

The US Amateur is the most prestigious and competitive amateur tournament in golf. There is a rigorous qualifying process from 79 sites during July. Winners of other major amateur tournaments and the top 50 ranked amateurs in the world are exempt. In total, 312 golfers qualified for two rounds of stroke play at Pebble Beach.

Four Vanderbilt Commodores. Senior Will Gordon, Junior John Augenstein, and Sophomore Harrison Ott all qualified for the round of 64 Match Play starting today. Senior Patrick Martin failed to qualify through a 24 person playoff for one final spot in the field of 64 (!!!) that teed off at 7:30 AM PST.

Vanderbilt is the most represented NCAA school in the round of 64.

Will Gordon is leading the Vanderbilt crew T-4 with a two day total of 139, -4. John Augenstein is T-10 with a 142 -1. Harrison Ott is T-46 with a 146, +3.

The match play will continue through the week. Gordon will face Hide Yoshihara of Japan, the 60th seed. Augenstein will face Colin Marikawa of the US, the 50th seed. Ott will face Justin Suh of the US, the 6th seed.
