Good morning.
Today marks 55 days from Vanderbilt football’s season opener against Middle Tennessee State. #55 on the roster is David Floyd, a junior offensive lineman who walked on the team in 2016 and has yet to see game action, though he’s been on the scout team. Floyd is from Lipscomb Academy, where he was a high school teammate of Rutger Reitmaier.
Vanderbilt doesn’t have a softball team because of the lack of a softball field, but on Saturday, Hawkins Field became a softball field. Logic! Jordan Matthews hosted the second annual Vandy Legends Charity Softball Game yesterday, and it was a hoot:

In NBA Summer League action yesterday, Wade Baldwin IV had 20 points and 5 assists in the Blazers’ 93-78 win over the Jazz. Wade also got ejected for this:

Oh yeah, John Jenkins also had eight points on 4-of-6 shooting.
Vanderbilt baseball picked up a 2019 commitment in the person of Knoxville Farragut’s Parker Noland, who Google tells me was previously committed to MTSU.
Excited to announce that I will be continuing my academic and baseball career at Vanderbilt University. #VandyBoys pic.twitter.com/G4Dmp5UmAi

Off the West End
Nashville SC drew first-place FC Cincinnati on Saturday night.
Our sister site Pats Pulpit has a post about Ralph Webb, who is in the Patriots’ camp as an undrafted free agent.
Yesterday at the World Cup: England eliminates Sweden, and Croatia knocks out Russia on penalties. Your World Cup semifinalists: France, Belgium, Croatia, England.
As Duke freshman Zion Williamson becomes a national phenom over the offseason, remember this: Zion Williamson was not the high school player of the year in South Carolina. That was Aaron Nesmith.
