Good morning.
Today marks 40 days from Vanderbilt’s season opener against Middle Tennessee. #40 on the Vanderbilt roster is senior inside linebacker Jordan Griffin, who played 11 games in 2017 with five starts and ended the season with 8.5 tackles for loss, a sack, and a forced fumble.
Not a whole lot of news today. Former Vanderbilt OL Andrew Jelks announced his retirement from football over the weekend. Jelks suffered knee injuries in two straight seasons at Vanderbilt and could never catch on in the pros.
Trent Sherfield and C.J. Duncan are both in training camp with the Arizona Cardinals fighting for the same roster spot.
Francesco Molinari shot a final-round 69 to win the Open Championship by two strokes. A number of sportswriters were mad that Molinari denied them a playoff involving Jordan Spieth, Justin Rose, Rory McIlroy, and Tiger Woods. Instead, Molinari is the first Italian to win a major.
Some housekeeping: starting today or tomorrow, we’re going to begin our breakdown of Vanderbilt’s roster going into the 2018 season.
