Anchor Drop, May 27, 2018: 97 Days

Tennis’s Fernanda Contreras is in the Final Four of the NCAA singles tournament.

NCAA Football: Alabama at Vanderbilt Jim Brown-USA TODAY Sports

Good morning.

We’re 97 days away from the season opener against Middle Tennessee State. This is a bit awkward; there’s no 97 on the current roster (punter Reid Nelson wore the number last year, but he’s graduated, and the incoming freshmen haven’t been assigned numbers yet.) By the way, an eternal annoyance I have is Vanderbilt’s insistence on having two players assigned the same number while others go unused.

Fernanda Contreras advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA singles tournament after beating Florida’s Anna Danilina on Saturday.

Men’s golf shot a 292 in the second round of the NCAA Championship, and the Commodores are in a tie for sixth with two more rounds to go.

Off the West End

We’ve got two Game 7s in the NBA after the Warriors came back to beat the Rockets on Saturday night. Boston and Cleveland will play a Game 7 tonight.
