Vanderbilt men’s golf is in 7th place with a 1-under par score at the end of the first day of the NCAA Championship. The Commodores didn’t complete the first round; after waiting out a rain delay, Vanderbilt’s round was suspended due to darkness on the back nine in Stillwater. Vanderbilt will complete the first round today and begin the second round at 8:22 AM CT.
Fernanda Contreras and Astra Sharma advanced to the quarterfinals of the individual NCAA Tournament, both as a doubles pair after beating Nina Khmelnitckaia and Anastasia Rychagova of Kansas, and individually in the singles competition.

And we’re 98 days away from the kickoff to football season. 98 on the roster belongs to junior kicker Ryley Guay, a walk-on from Naperville, Illinois, who’s appeared in six games over the last two years. In 2017, Guay handled two kickoffs — both touchbacks — and also kicked an extra point in the Alabama A&M game for the first point of his college career.
We fully expect true freshman Javan Rice to handle the placekicking duties in 2018, but Guay has enough of a leg that he could see some action if Rice isn’t reliable enough.
