Well, this is something.
In the first 41 years of the McDonald’s All-American Game, a grand total of one Vanderbilt player participated in the game -- and that was Billy McCaffrey, who signed with Duke out of high school before transferring to Vanderbilt after two years. In 2018, two Vanderbilt signees were selected to play in the game. Simi Shittu won’t actually be playing in the game thanks to an ACL injury, but Darius Garland will be suiting up and playing for the East team.
What’s even better is that two of his teammates on the East squad are Romeo Langford and E.J. Montgomery. Langford and Montgomery are currently uncommitted and both have Vanderbilt on the list of schools they’re considering. I am sure that Darius will not be trying to sell them on playing at Vanderbilt tonight.
So, for the first time ever, we can sit down and watch the McDonald’s All-American Game and not just get a preview of next year’s Kentucky team. Vanderbilt has as many McDonald’s All-Americans as Kentucky this year. Have fun.
