The Vanderbilt Commodores’ women’s basketball team is 6-22 this season and 2-12 in the SEC. I don’t really watch enough (read: at all) to draw any conclusions about what’s wrong with the team, but a quick, back-of-the-envelope calculation shows that they’re committing turnovers on close to 25 percent of their offensive possessions. That’s... uh, not good. (There’s no KenPom for women’s basketball, but I do note that if this were a men’s team, their turnover rate would rank something like 348th of 351 Division I teams.) They’re also not very good at rebounding. Place blame wherever you’d like, but this is not a good basketball team.
The Commodores head to play the Missouri Tigers at 7 PM CT on Thursday night, in a game that will be broadcast on the SEC Network+ and the WatchESPN app. Missouri is 22-5 and 10-4 in the SEC, the latter of which makes no sense seeing how they are a Big 12 school.
While we are officially a Vanderbilt sports blog, we have some alternative suggestions if you do not choose to watch what looks on paper to be a non-competitive game. Also at 7 PM CT, on the Midco Sports Network and WatchESPN, our favorite mid-major team, the South Dakota State Jackrabbits (23-6, 11-1) host the hated South Dakota Coyotes (24-6, 11-2) with the Summit League regular season title on the line.

If goofy color commentary, possibly while high, is your thing, we’ve got you covered too: at 8 PM CT on ESPN and WatchESPN, the Utah Utes host the UCLA Bruins. This would be thoroughly uninteresting to Anchor of Gold readers if not for the fact that Bill Walton is the color commentator for this game. You’re welcome.
If you’re looking for bad basketball, Wisconsin plays at Northwestern at 6:00 PM CT on ESPN2. Fox Sports 1 has a nice tripleheader tonight: Purdue at Illinois at 6:00 PM CT; Arizona at Oregon State at 8:00 PM CT; and Arizona State at Oregon at 10:30 PM CT.
Of mild local interest, Belmont plays Jacksonville State at 8:00 PM CT on ESPNU, and Memphis hosts Houston at 8:00 PM CT on the CBS Sports Network.
And there’s also the Olympics. Look, just talk about whatever you want in here. This is a free speech zone.
