Anchor Drop, November 6, 2018: Tipoff Edition

The men’s and women’s basketball teams open the season tonight.

NCAA Basketball: SEC Basketball Tipoff Vasha Hunt-USA TODAY Sports

Good morning.

Basketball season is here. The women’s basketball team will open the season tonight at 6:00 PM CT against North Alabama, followed by the men’s team hosting Winthrop in the Vanderbilt debuts of Darius Garland and Simi Shittu. Both games will be available for streaming on the SEC Network+.

Vanderbilt women’s soccer is inexplicably not a national seed in spite of winning the regular season title of a conference that put nine teams in the tournament. The Commodores will host Murray State at 7:00 PM CT on Saturday to open the tournament.

Derek Mason’s weekly press conference will be at 12:15 PM CT today.

Off the West End

It’s Election Day. A quick reminder: while Anchor of Gold does not have a strict “no politics” rule, being a jerk to other commenters will get you banned.

The New York Post reports that the Yankees are looking to move Sonny Gray, which is good because it means I don’t ever have to root for the Yankees.

Bad Gambling Advice

A new feature wherein Tom tries to predict all the SEC basketball games against the spread! As the title implies, I take no responsibility if you lose money on the basis of this advice.

South Alabama (+20) at AUBURN

Florida at FLORIDA STATE (-3.5)

Duke (+2) vs. Kentucky
