Alcorn State Braves (1-1) at Vanderbilt Commodores (2-0)
When: 7:00 PM CT, Friday, November 16, 2018
Where: Memorial Gym, Nashville, Tennessee
TV: SEC Network+/WatchESPN
Radio: Vanderbilt IMG Sports Network
After opening the season with a solid win over Winthrop and an impressive road win over USC, Vanderbilt returns home for the first game of the Commodore Classic. What is the Commodore Classic? Well, it’s a complete joke of a “tournament” that allows Vanderbilt to count home games against Alcorn State, Liberty, Kent State, and Savannah State as an exempt event to exceed the NCAA’s 28-game regular season limit. You won’t hear any mention of the event from anyone associated with Vanderbilt except for us.
In any case, Vanderbilt hosts Alcorn State tonight. Alcorn State is 1-1 on the season, with a 73-56 loss to Tulsa to open the season followed by a 79-55 win over Blue Mountain College, a NAIA school located in Blue Mountain, Mississippi, which is near Tupelo, and I can assure you there are no mountains in Mississippi. False advertising! On the other hand, I just slipped in your obligatory NAIA reference.
Anyway, Alcorn is ranked #343 in KenPom and #334 in Sagarin. Vanderbilt is favored by 27.5 points. Look, if you want to turn this into a thread for Vanderbilt women’s soccer taking on Baylor in the NCAA Tournament (which is on Facebook Live!) I can’t really say I blame you for that.
