Good morning.

Former Vanderbilt pitcher David Price was the starting pitcher last night as the Boston Red Sox beat the Los Angeles Dodgers to clinch the 2018 World Series. Important fact: in this World Series, teams went 3-0 when they started a former Vanderbilt pitcher.

Vanderbilt women’s tennis not only won the June Stewart Invitational over the weekend, they didn’t lose a single match — which coach Geoff MacDonald admitted was something that had never happened in his career.

Women’s basketball beat Indianapolis 90-60 in an exhibition game on Sunday behind 26 points and 11 rebounds from Boston College transfer Mariella Fasoula. The Commodores open the regular season next Tuesday at 6 PM against North Alabama.

Bowling finished second to Nebraska at the McKendree Hammer Open on Sunday.

Soccer coach Darren Ambrose was named the SEC Coach of the Year in awards announced on Sunday. Haley Hopkins and Grace Jackson were named first team All-SEC; Hopkins was also named the SEC Freshman of the Year. Nia Dorsey was named to the second team, and Ella Shamburger was named to the All-Freshman team. Vanderbilt will open the SEC Tournament against Florida in Tuesday’s quarterfinals.

Off the West End

Hoo boy. Outside the Lines went through the cell phone records of Christian Dawkins, one of the defendants recently convicted in the FBI college basketball probe, and found calls to numerous college basketball coaches. (Don’t worry, nobody associated with Vanderbilt is on the list.)

The Cleveland Cavaliers lost LeBron James, and now head coach Tyronn Lue is gone after an 0-6 start to the season.

And for Your Uncle Mike, this may be a couple of days late, but South Carolina lost an exhibition game to a Division II team.
