We usually go into the first game of the season feeling a mixture of excitement and dread.
Excitement, because footbaw is back. Dread, because we’re probably going to figure out a way to lose to Middle in the season opener.
Instead, Vanderbilt scored on their first three possessions of the game, got up 28-0 early in the second half and mostly cruised from there. Middle did pick up a late touchdown to avoid the shutout, but there was really never a point in the game when I thought Vanderbilt might possibly lose this game, which is a ... new feeling.
Also, Middle seriously shot off fireworks and turned on an air horn to celebrate an incomplete pass in the end zone.
Also, Vanderbilt is 1-0 for the first time since 2011. And that was a win over Elon. Celebrate!
