2018 Eagles Landing (GA) CB Tre Douglas Drops Anchor

Rivals is reporting this morning that Vanderbilt picked up a commitment from McDonough (GA) Eagles Landing CB Tre Douglas, the tenth commitment in the Class of 2018.

Per his Rivals profile, Douglas is a three-star recruit and the #69 cornerback prospect in the Class of 2018, and the #60 prospect in Georgia. But if you like offer lists, Douglas claims offers from Ohio State, Clemson, Alabama, Florida, Michigan, Penn State, and Stanford, among a host of power programs. 247 Sports is a bit more bullish on Douglas, rating him as the #34 cornerback prospect in the class. In fact, Douglas was presumed to be an Ohio State lean earlier this year, and now he’s anchoring down with Derek Mason.

If that’s not enough, ESPN ranks him as a top 25 corner, four-star prospect, and the top current commit in Mason’s ever-improving 2018 haul.

At 6’1 and 195 pounds, Douglas already has the frame of an NFL draftee. He’s explosive changing directions, which gives him the ability to follow wideouts through their cuts and attack ballcarriers with jarring hits. He plays mean, finishing tackles with authority and never backing down from an opportunity to create havoc.

He’s a dominant high school player, and the SEC will be the perfect challenge for him. He’ll play his college ball for a program that’s churned out more than it’s share of defensive backs in the past decade. D.J. Moore, Sean Richardson, Andre Hal, Myron Lewis, and Casey Hayward all turned productive Commodore careers into starting roles on Sunday.

Douglas is the 10th member of Vanderbilt’s recruiting haul for 2018. That class is shaping up to be the best of the Derek Mason era — and potentially one of the best in program history. With players like Douglas and quarterback Allan Walters prepped to turn heads their senior season, the Commodores could wind up signing several blue chip prospects by the time the recruiting rankings are final.
