The Vanderbilt Commodores get one final tuneup before SEC play starts as they host the Alcorn State Braves tonight. Tipoff is at 6 PM CT, and the game can be streamed on SEC Network+ (via the WatchESPN app.) Joe Fisher's call can be found on the Vanderbilt IMG Sports Network.
To be blunt, this isn't a game that should give Vanderbilt any trouble. Alcorn State is 4-8 on the season, but they're 0-8 against Division I competition, and ten days ago they struggled to put away Fisk, winning by a 77-69 score. (Fisk is Division III.) They lost to LSU by 40 and Creighton by 37 earlier this season. They're currently ranked #338 in KenPom -- out of 351 Division I teams -- and KenPom's algorithm predicts an 81-59 final score with Vanderbilt given a 98% chance of winning.
Vanderbilt currently sports a 4-7 record, but the worst loss was to KenPom #101 Belmont, and they easily dispatched Houston Baptist by an 81-48 score in their last outing. If this game is still in doubt at halftime, that would be a pretty significant development.
