The Vanderbilt Commodores tip off the 2017-18 basketball season tonight as they host the Austin Peay Governors at 8:30 PM CT. The game will not be televised, officially, but is available to stream on the SEC Network Plus via WatchESPN. Audio is available via the Vanderbilt IMG Sports Network.
Vanderbilt is a 25.5-point favorite over the Governors, who went 11-19 last year and finished 289th in KenPom, in what was longtime coach Dave Loos' final season. They are 322nd in KenPom with a mostly new roster under new coach Matt Figger, who was a longtime assistant under Frank Martin at both Kansas State and South Carolina.
Vanderbilt went 19-16 last year and made the NCAA Tournament in Bryce Drew's first year. They return seven of nine lettermen from last year's team, though Luke Kornet, who earned first team All-SEC honors, is now with the New York Knicks.
If you're curious about the late start time, Vanderbilt's doing an old-fashioned doubleheader tonight, with the women's team facing Middle Tennessee at 6 PM CT and the men's game to follow 30 minutes later. We're getting the game thread up at 6 for those of you watching the women's game.
