Center Ejike Obinna commits to Vanderbilt

Bryce Drew added a big man to his first recruiting class.

Bryce Drew picked up his third commitment as Vanderbilt’s head coach as Virginia Academy center Ejike Obinna announced his decision to become a Commodore following an official visit over the weekend.

Obinna, at 6’9” and 230 pounds, is rated as the #15 center and #158 overall in the Class of 2017 by 247 Sports. ESPN rates him as a four-star recruit and the #19 center in the class, and Rivals also rates him as a four-star recruit and the #125 prospect in the Class of 2017.

Obinna is a native of Nigeria who’s relatively new to the game of basketball; by one report, he’s only been playing basketball for two or three years. He’s not a freak athlete, but he has good size and is pretty solidly built, in addition to having what looks like a pretty polished low-post game for a guy who hasn’t been playing basketball for very long:

Obinna joins guards Saben Lee and Maxwell Evans in Vanderbilt’s 2017 recruiting class.
