Vanderbilt v. Xavier Game Thread

14 inning under card game affected our start, and then the heavens opened up on us. Game pushed back to ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ CT.

Steven Branscombe-USA TODAY Sports

On the Mound (if the rain stops soon):

RHP Jordan "Top Sheff" Sheffield (8-5, 2.73) vs. LHP Zac Lowther "of the Hill People" (6-5, 3.22)

The last time we opened an NCAA Regional against Xavier, Tyler Beede went 8 innings of shutout ball, striking out 14 Xavier 16th Century Basque Jesuits in the process.  Jordan Sheffield will have to be on his A game to top that.  Following that game, we won some sort of trophy in Omaha, Nebraska.  Probably a gold watch for 25 years of service at an insurance agency or something.  It's not important.

The last time we faced Xavier LHP Zac Lowther (of the Hill People), Sheffield threw 7 and 2/3 of shutout, 1 hit ball, K'd 12, and we won 7-0.  Lowther (of the Hill People) went 6 IP, but did not exactly have a quality start, as we pelted him for 10 hits and 5 runs.  Will Toffey led the charge, going 3-4 with 1 R and 1 RBI.  Alonzo Jones, Jason Delay, and Penn Murfee all had doubles.  We went on to sweep the series pretty easily.

If we get this one underway soon, Adam Sparks released the following as our lineup (though Corbs has not announced an official one yet, and will have had many hours to tinker with it, so keep that in mind):

Let's win this thing for Donny.

See you in the comments (if/when it dries up),
