Vanderbilt grinds Norfolk State into a fine powder, 75-52

That was oddly satisfying.

The Vanderbilt Commodores shot just 21-of-56 (37.5 percent) from the floor on Friday night, but still beat the Norfolk State Spartans easily, 75-52.

After attempting 18 three-pointers against Belmont on Tuesday night, Vanderbilt attempted 28 of them on Friday night, making 10. Matthew Fisher-Davis knocked down four of them on his way to a team-high 18 points; Riley LaChance hit three triples and scored 12 points. Jeff Roberson had a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

But the bigger story was the Vanderbilt defense, which completely shut down Norfolk State. The Commodores held Norfolk to 18-of-59 (30 percent) shooting and blocked nine shots — four of them by Luke Kornet, and three by Djery Baptiste, who also had seven points and seven boards in his third college game.

Vanderbilt improves to 2-1 on the season. The Commodores return to action on Monday night as Bucknell comes to town. Tipoff is at 8:00 PM CT, and the game will be televised on the SEC Network.
