Derek Mason will have the opportunity to show off his rebuilding effort on a national stage this fall. CBS just announced that September 12th's showdown between the Vanderbilt Commodores and Georgia Bulldogs will be broadcast live from Nashville to homes across the country.
The Vanderbilt/UGA game beat out other conference showdowns like LSU at Mississippi State and Kentucky at South Carolina to earn a slot on the nation's most-watched network. The two teams had built up a fiery rivalry earlier in the decade after Vandy's then-coach James Franklin had a passionate exchange of words with Georgia's then-defensive coordinator Todd Grantham, but those flames have cooled now that both coaches have moved on to other jobs. Mason lost to the Bulldogs 44-17 in his first ever matchup against Mark Richt. That game is probably best known for giving us this classic Stephen Rivers performance (thanks to Yahoo! for the gif):
Georgia at Vanderbilt was one of five specific games to be singled out for CBS's Saturday afternoon timeslots. Here's the full list - complete with plenty of "SEC Game of the Week" slots, courtesy of the network:
