Tim Corbin was dealt another blow on Monday night when top recruit Bryce Denton was selected 66th overall in the MLB Draft. Will the power hitting third baseman honor his commitment and stick with Vanderbilt? Or will he sign with the St. Louis Cardinals and end his amateur career?
Bryce Denton, 3B, Brentwood, TN
6'1" 200lbs, R/R
Perfect Game 1st Team All-American
#92 on the Baseball America Top 100 draft prospects list (college and HS)
Denton is a local kid from Ravenwood High. He's got pull-side power and the potential to be a right handed power bat. The ball tends to jump off his bat. If he turns down the big bucks, he could be a candidate to replace Rhett Wiseman in right field.
Chances he's coming to campus: Good.
Corbs has consistently done a great job of convincing local kids to star at Vandy. From David Price to Sonny Gray to Bryan Reynolds, Corbs has gotten it done. Denton failed to rocket up the draft board to the first round, but a landing spot in the middle of the second is nothing to sneeze at, and there's always a chance he signs a deal over slot value.
Still, I bet his Vandy commitment is honored.
Well hey, it's been a while since we checked in with David Price, right?
I know today is a big day for a lot of baseball players...high school kids GO TO COLLEGE!! Can't miss out on the best 3-4 years of your life
