Vanderbilt/Illinois Super Regional Game 2 Postponed to 3PM Monday

Vanderbilt and #6 Illinois moved the start time of their Sunday game up to 5pm to avoid thunderstorms, but that wasn't early enough. Game two of the Champaign Super Regional has been postponed to Monday.

It'll look something like this, but probably not until 7pm.

Vanderbilt will have to wait another day for a chance to clinch a spot in the College World Series. Sunday's game against #6 Illinois was postponed due to the threat of thunderstorms in the area.

The game had been moved up to a 5 pm start time from an original 8 pm first pitch, but that wasn't enough time to beat the weather. Reports of lightning nearby kept the fans in Champaign waiting despite no actual rain at the stadium. A 20-minute delay turned into an hour, and around 6 pm officials called off the game entirely. The two teams will meet on Monday to play game two of the Super Regional. As of 6:05 pm, start time has been announced.

The delay will give Illinois an extra day to regroup after suffering a 13-0 thrashing at Vanderbilt's hand on Saturday. The Commodores took advantage of Illini mistakes to chase ace Kevin Duchene early and deliver Illinois's third home loss of the season. Vandy needs just one more win to clinch a return trip to the College World Series.

We'll have more updates on Monday's start time as they develop.

UPDATE: The Vanderbilt Hustler reports that the postponed game will be played Tuesday, not Monday. Apparently this is a mistake.

UPDATE 2: Tomorrow's game will start at 3pm CST. That's three hours before Dansby Swanson gets his name called as the #1 overall pick in the 2015 MLB Draft.
