Gamethread! #10 Florida at #6 Vanderbilt in the Series' Rubber Match

New, comments

#10 Florida topped #6 Vanderbilt 7-3 on Friday to set up a deciding game three on Saturday. Can the Commodores hold serve in Nashville behind starter Walker Buehler to win the series?

Bruce Thorson-USA TODAY Sports

Florida used a homer-driven offense and seven solid innings from A.J. Puk on Friday to battle back into contention for an SEC East title.

The Gators hit a pair of dingers early and led from the second inning on while Puk twirled a 12-strikeout gem in Nashville to give Florida a 7-3 win. That victory puts them two games behind Vanderbilt for the SEC East lead. They can cut that number down to one with a win today.

Locking down the East holds a big advantage for the winner. That top spot carries an automatic bye in the first round of the SEC Tournament two weeks from now. If Vanderbilt can hold serve and fend off the Gators at home, they'll effectively clinch a day off in Hoover and add to their case for a national seed at the NCAA Tournament.

First pitch starts at noon central time. You can watch the action live on the SEC Network. And, as usual, you can join us in the comments section to talk about today's game and the race for the SEC East crown.

Probable Starters

Vanderbilt: Walker Buehler (3-1, 2.86 ERA, 61 Ks in 56.2 innings)

Florida: Alex Faedo (4-1, 3.27, 38-41.1)
