While this December may be disappointing for Vanderbilt fans hoping for a bowl appearance this season, Coach Mason and his staff have been on the road recruiting in an effort to make sure that this is the last December without a Bowl appearance for the next several years. Late Christmas afternoon, 4-Star C Sean Auwae, a former UCLA commit, announced on Twitter his intentions to play for CDM and this Commodores staff. Auwae becomes the second four-star to commit this month, joining Joejuan Williams, who committed on December 12th.
Auwae announced his commitment on Twitter, and the reaction by Early Enrollee Deuce Wallace was something that has Vanderbilt fans all over excited and hopeful for the future:
Auwae committed to the Commodores over offers from several other schools, most notably UCLA, Mississippi State, Texas Tech, and Utah. Auwae is rated as one of the top players in the state of Hawaii, as well as a top-3 Center nationally. According to 247Sports, Auwae is rated as a 4-Star prospect, and a top-300 player nationally.
He is going to have a chance to build something special with the rest of this offensive line class which includes Braden Kopp and Devin Cochran, two players with very high upside headed to Nashville in the fall.
As the Class of 2016 heads towards the finish line, look for several more 2017 offers to go out over the next several weeks, as well as some 2016 offers scattered around as the new coaches evaluate players that may fit the system they aim to install.
While this class has been called the #Select16, and one would assume that means that only one spot remains open, I expect Vanderbilt to add anywhere between 4-6 more recruits for the Class of 2016. Who those may be, only time will tell. Between now and then, keep it here at Anchor Of Gold for your 100% Free Recruiting News, and as always #AnchorDown.
Happy Holidays! Here are Auwae's highlights, courtesy of Hudl:
