Vanderbilt basketball didn't have much of a chance to avenge their upset home to Dayton last week. The university's finals schedule made sure of that. But a nine-day layoff helped top 25 voters forget about the Commodores; they dropped in both the AP and Coaches' rankings this week.
Vandy fell from No. 23 to No. 25 in the Coaches' Poll for week seven. They lost 10 points in the AP rankings to drop from No. 30 to No. 35. That pushed the team back to fourth among SEC programs, behind No. 12 Kentucky, No. 21 Texas A&M, and No. 25 South Carolina.
The Commodores 72-67 loss to the Flyers was Vandy's second in a row after a 6-1 start pushed the team as high as 12th in the Coaches' Poll. They were able to right their ship with an 80-56 win over Wofford on Saturday, but the biggest remaining test of their non-conference schedule will come on Tuesday when they face No. 14 Purdue in West Lafayette. If the 'Dores lose, they'll wrap up 2015 without a true quality win on their resume.
Here's how both polls shook out.
