While this past weekend may not have gone as well as many would have hoped on the field, off the field the Commodores have achieved a big win in recruiting. Class of 2017 APB Lamont Atkins from Lake Braddock HS in Virginia had just been in Nashville on an unofficial visit, and just hours after, he announced his decision to drop the anchor and commit to Vanderbilt on Twitter:
Dreams Do Come True! I have committed to Vanderbilt University to further my education & football career ⚓️⬇️ pic.twitter.com/tamqGnjKge

Atkins is rated as a 3-Star APB, and according to 247Sports, he is rated in the Top-15 in the position, as well as a Top-20 prospect overall in the state of Virginia. His offer list is nowhere near complete, as it appears the Commodores staff was well ahead of the rest of the Power 5 in their evaluation of Atkins. He committed to Vanderbilt over other offers from Toledo, Kent State, and Navy. His interests include several local programs such as Penn State, Virginia, Virginia Tech, as well as both Duke and North Carolina. Expect his recruitment to heat up over the next several months.
