4 Dores Named Louisville Slugger All-Americans

New, 1 comment

Yes, it's the four you would expect. No, the rest of the world has yet to fully appreciate the precision brutality that is Hayden "The Cold Stone K-Reamer" Stone's slider.

Football season's over; back in the pile!
Football season's over; back in the pile!

In addition to being three days until Festivus Eve, it's pre-season baseball awards season.

Four of your favorite players are on this list.  Three made First Team All-America.  They are the obvious picks: RHP Carson "The Florida Flamethrower" Fulmer, *SS Dansby "The Mansby" Swanson, and RHP Walker "Iron Man" Buehler.  OF Bryan "The Aluminum Foil" Reynolds was named a 3rd Team All-American, which is nice, but he's better than more than a few guys listed ahead of him**.  They should all be first-teamers.  For their efforts, a donation will be made in their names to The Human Fund.

*Swanson played 2B last year, but is a natural SS, and played that position on the National Team this summer.

**My first team OF would look like this: Joe McCarthy (UVA), Bryan Reynolds (VU), and D.J. Stewart (FSU).

At least one of your favorite players is not on it.  I cannot envision a future in which The Cold Stone K-Reamer (sophomore RHP Hayden Stone) will not be at or near the top with respect to Ks, Saves, and ERA.  I just can't.  He will be on the end of the season list which actually counts.  Of course, I've been wrong before.

Coming off a National Champion season, your 2014 National Champion (this is never not fun to write) Vanderbilt Commodores were expected to have quite the presence on the various All-American teams put out by different publications.  First up is The Louisville Slugger pre-season All-American Team, as voted by Collegiate Baseball.

As far as these things go, I rank them like this:

1. Baseball America

2. Louisville Slugger (Collegiate Baseball)

3. Perfect Game/Baseball Prospectus (joint venture which used to be a Rawlings and Perfect Game joint venture)

4. The rest.

As Baseball America is unlikely to release theirs until early February, this is as good as any list out there.
