Vanderbilt Football Depth Chart vs. Florida: Freebeck Falls Off the Depth Chart

Good thing Derek Mason burned that redshirt when he had a chance.

I know it's just ODU, but these guys have me pretty excited about the next 3 years.

Johnny McCrary absolutely deserves to be this team's starting quarterback after throwing five touchdown passes against Old Dominion. Fortunately, the Commodore coaching staff feels the same way.

McCrary is the team's unquestioned starter for Saturday's showdown with Florida. Patton Robinette will back him up, and Stephen Rivers has been deemed healthy enough to be this team's third-string QB. True freshman Wade Freebeck, who has started three games this season, does not appear on the depth chart this week.

There were few changes elsewhere on the team's positional listings this week. Darrius Sims is back to being a nickel back. Jahmel McIntosh's play and veteran leadership at strong safety has necessitated a shift in the defensive backfield as well. Oren Burks will now start at free safety with Andrew Williamson handling a backup role. Inside linebacker Darreon Herring will continue his dual-deployment as both a linebacker and nickelback for the team.

After two straight games with McCrary as this team's full-time starter, it seems likely that he'll see every snap against the Gators if he stays healthy. However, Derek Mason has made it clear that his quarterbacks shouldn't take their playing time for granted this season. We'll have to keep an eye out for Robinette warming up on the sidelines should McCrary struggle this weekend.
