Vanderbilt got pasted 51-0 on Saturday night. The only silver lining on that decimation was that it came against the #4 team in the country.
That helped soften Vandy's blow down the Sagarin ratings. They fell from 105th to 108th in USA Today's preferred computer rankings. The loss was the Commodores' third against a top 10-rated team (Georgia, Mississippi, Mississippi State) in 2014. They are now currently ranked behind 14 I-AA programs, including the Vanderbilt of the north - Harvard.
Once again, the ratings project Vanderbilt as a middling team in the Badlands. They're ranked higher than just one Power Five team (#131 Wake Forest). The Commodores are also the fifth-best team in the state of Tennessee, behind next week's opponent UT (#28), Memphis (#44), Chattanooga (#85), and Middle Tennessee (#103).
Vanderbilt will conclude their season against the Volunteers on Saturday. A win there could help them crack the top 100. More importantly, it would keep Tennessee (5-6) from becoming bowl eligible.
