Sagarin Ratings: Vandy Rises to 105th During Second Bye Week

Wins by UMass and Charleston Southern helped Vandy rise in the computer ratings despite not playing a game this week. The Commodores rose from 109th to 105th in USA Today's Sagarin ratings after week 12.

Kansas is creepin', and that is terrible, terrible news for Vandy football.
Kansas is creepin', and that is terrible, terrible news for Vandy football.

All three opponents that Vanderbilt has beaten in 2014 won their most recent football games. That helped the Commodores climb from 109th to 105th in Jeff Sagarin's computer ratings despite taking the past week off.

UMass (beat Ball State), Charleston Southern (beat Liberty), and Old Dominion (beat Florida International before a bye week of their own) all recorded victories to help raise Vandy's profile - albeit slightly. Derek Mason's team rose four spots and now sit a win away from cracking the top 100. It won't be easy, however. The Commodores will finish their season with a trip to #8 Mississippi State before hosting #27 Tennessee.

14 FCS teams were rated higher than Vanderbilt after week 12:

38. North Dakota State
58. Northern Iowa
65. Jacksonville State
66. Illinois State
74. South Dakota State
82. New Hampshire
86. Coastal Carolina
89. Chattanooga
90. Villanova
94. Harvard
95. Eastern Washington
98. SE Louisiana
101. Indiana State
103. Sam Houston State

Yes, once again, Vanderbilt cedes ground to Harvard's powerhouse football program. The 'Dores are currently ranked fourth in the state of Tennessee, behind UT (27th), Memphis (43rd), and Chattanooga (89th). They're rated above only two FBS-conference programs - Kansas (106th) and Wake Forest (149th).
