One-Point Win Over Charleston Southern Drops Vanderbilt Six Spots in the Sagarin Ratings

Vanderbilt doubled their 2014 win total by beating FCS team Charleston Southern...and fell to 123rd in the Sagarin Ratings as a result. I guess the computers weren't impressed by the Commodores' one-point win.

Vanderbilt's 21-20 home win over Charleston Southern did not move the needle in Jeff Sagarin's computer ratings. The Commodores actually dropped six spots from last week after struggling to put away the Buccaneers. Vandy fell to 123rd out of 252 teams. CSU rose from 174th to 150th by virtue of the close loss.

After beating the #23 team among FCS squads, Sagarin places the 'Dores at 24th in the subdivision. Here are the I-AA teams who have outranked Vanderbilt this week:

39. North Dakota State
61. Illinois State
71. New Hampshire
76. Villanova
78. Eastern Washington
80. Northern Iowa
81. Jacksonville State
82. South Dakota State
85. McNeese State
88. Southern Illinois
90. Sam Houston State
91. Coastal Carolina
101. Harvard
102. SE Louisiana
104. Missouri State
105. Chattanooga
107. Richmond
109. Indiana State
110. Eastern Kentucky
115. Montana
116. Youngstown State
118. Montana State
121. Fordham

For reference, Chattanooga got ruined by Tennessee this weekend, 45-10. They are ranked 18 slots higher than the Commodores.

Here are the BCS conference opponents that the Commodores would be favored to beat on a neutral field:

126. Wake Forest
End of list.

Vanderbilt will have the opportunity to work on that ranking in two weeks when they return to face Missouri on the road. The Tigers are currently ranked 36th by the computer ratings.
