Four-Star Shooting Guard Matthew Fisher-Davis Commits to Vanderbilt for 2014

Kevin Stallings picked up his second recruit for 2014, and it's another talented guard. Four-star shooter Matthew Fisher-Davis chose Vanderbilt over Georgia, Virginia, and Wake Forest thanks to the promise of immediate playing time in Nashville.

Vanderbilt basketball's quest to restock the cupboards after losing an entire recruiting class took another step in the right direction on Monday.

Assistant coach Yanni Hufnagel continued to prove his worth as a summer hire by helping to bring in Charlotte, North Carolina guard Matthew Fisher-Davis this week. Fisher-Davis is rated as a four-star recruit by both Rivals.com and ESPN. His commitment gives the 'Dores a pair of four-star players, the most that the team has had since 2011.

Fisher-Davis meets all the requirements of a shooting guard in Kevin Stallings's system. The 6'5" athlete is an elite shooter who can rise over defenders and make baskets with a hand in his face. His ability to spread the court will help 2013 signees Damian Jones and Luke Kornet find space in the paint, and he should provide a solid complement to slashing guard and fellow 2014 commit Wade Baldwin.

He'll have to fill out his game before he can have a major impact for the 'Dores, but right now he projects to be a John Jenkins-ish player. That means he'll have to work on his defense and his ability to score at the rim, but he'll certainly have a role with the Commodores. While he's not the once-in-a-generation shooter that Jenkins was, he can still be the floor-spacing threat that Stallings's teams need to run an efficient offense.

If Fisher-Davis and Baldwin's commitments hold true and the Commodores don't lose any more players to non-graduation reasons this season, here's what the Vanderbilt depth chart could look like in 2014-2015:

SG: Dai-Jon Parker, Matthew Fisher-Davis, Nathan Watkins
SF: James Siakam, the ghost of Joe Duffy
PF: Shelby Moats, Luke Kornet
C: Josh Henderson, Damian Jones

That leaves a big hole at small forward to fill (a spot that could have been filled by Kevin Bright and Sheldon Jeter) with only Siakam, who is more of an undersized power forward filling that role after Rod Odom graduates. The 'Dores currently don't have any major targets at the position right now, but it's still early in the recruiting process.
