The 2012 SEC football schedules were officially released today, and it will be Vanderbilt and South Carolina kicking off league play in the upcoming season.
Vanderbilt will host the Gamecocks in a nationally televised Thursday night affair August 30th. It will be the Commodores' first game of the season and the first time that they've opened their campaign against another SEC squad since 2004 - when they also hosted South Carolina.
The game will be the first official matchup in the new 14 team iteration of the Southeastern Conference. In 2012, the SEC will add Texas A&M and Missouri to its ranks. Vanderbilt will play at Missouri October 6th but does not face the Aggies next season. In addition to the rest of their conference slate, the 'Dores have also scheduled games against Northwestern, Presbyterian, Massachusetts, and Wake Forest. Homecoming will be October 27th against the Minutemen, a team transitioning into BCS football in 2012.
