Periscope: #19/22 Vanderbilt vs. Arkansas

The Arkansas Razorbacks come to town looking to beat Vanderbilt for the first time since 2007 (a season that was particularly enjoyable for Commodore fans). Arkansas comes in having beaten Auburn in its last game and has yet to beat an SEC East team this season, while Vanderbilt has not yet lost to an SEC West team this year.

Schedule Breakdown

According to Kenpom, Vanderbilt is currently the 20th ranked team in the country while Arkansas is 114th. Pomeroy predicts a 78-62 Commodore victory in a game with pace around 71. He rates the likelihood of an Arkansas upset at 6%.

Based on their performances to date, Vanderbilt will be the second best offensive and fourth best defensive team the Razorbacks will have played. The closest match to an opponent the Razorbacks have previously played would be Texas A&M or Florida, though both are not quite as good as Vanderbilt defensively. Texas A&M won on a neutral court 71-62 and Florida won at home 75-43.

Arkansas will be the sixteenth best offensive team and the tenth best defensive team the Commodores will have played. The closest match to an opponent the Commodores have previously played would be Davidson or Presbyterian. The Commodores beat Davidson at home 80-52 and beat Presbyterian at home 88-47.

Vanderbilt owns the tempo-free statistics at every starting position and has a decided bench advantage as well. Keep in mind, these numbers are not adjusted for competition, and Vanderbilt has played a much tougher schedule than Arkansas.

Game Previews
