Vanderbilt's official radio silence is over. The Commodores will announce they've hired Valparaiso head coach Bryce Drew to take the same role in Nashville at a 3:30 p.m. (CST) press conference on Wednesday.
Here's the official live stream, courtesy of VUCommodores.com.
Drew spent five years with the Crusaders, leading Valpo to a 124-49 record, two NCAA Tournament appearances, two NIT appearances, and four regular season Horizon League titles. He'll take over for 17-year Vanderbilt veteran Kevin Stallings, who left the program to take the head coaching job at Pittsburgh.
So what do we know about Vanderbilt's first new basketball coach since 1999?
- He's probably the best candidate the Commodores could have hired.
- He's got the best record and most conference titles of any head coach Vanderbilt has hired since 1981.
- His decision to pick Vanderbilt over Georgia Tech speaks volumes for the Commodore basketball program.
- He'll roll into the 2016-17 season without a starting point guard since Wade Baldwin has declared for the 2016 NBA Draft.
