Is Patton Robinette Injured? Blatant Prognostication and Rumor Milling

Ever since Robinette was pulled in the first game, I've had the sneaking suspicion that his removal was due to injury, not performance. This is for two reasons: (1) He was pulled after an RB fumble, not an INT, and (2) When McCrary proved to be a bust, it was back to Rivers, not Robinette. Panic button and all, you would have expected to see Robinette a second time rather than Rivers.

This week, when Rivers proved completely ineffective, Robinette was nowhere to be found. Yes, it's possible that the coaching staff wanted to avoid another version of last weeks media haranguing, but no one is getting criticized for ditching Rivers at the half and going with Robinette.

Also odd this week was the fact the Kimbrow did not dress, and that Seymour's injury is starting to sound a lot like the narrative we heard about Warren Norman under CJF. Put short: the coaches clearly aren't about to go "full-disclosure" with the media.

Add all this together, and I am wondering if there is more going on here than has been made public by the coaches. After all, there is some sense in not identifying Robinette as being injured last week: it would force Ole Miss to have to game plan for a running QB rather than Rivers.

This of course is total conjecture, and may be totally wrong. I don't claim it to be true, just that it is possible. That said, while perusing the VU Athletics Facebook page, I found the following comment lurking on the VU / Ole Miss recap post:

Kathy Shepherd Smith Robinette hurt his knee in last week's game. My husband works with the Vandy equipment crew and he told me that tonight when I asked about why they didn't play him.

Is this rank hearsay? Yup. Could it be true? Also Yup. **

I suggest we get to prognosticating either way.
