Zac Stacy Gets Drafted in the 5th Round by the St. Louis Rams

Vanderbilt's all-time leading rusher has a new home - Saint Louis. Zac Stacy was selected in the 5th round (27th pick) by the Rams on Saturday.

Zac Stacy made history on Saturday, becoming the first Vanderbilt tailback to be drafted in the modern era when the St. Louis Rams made him the 160th overall pick. Stacy worked his way up to become a fifth round pick after being a platoon back early in his Commodore career. After a quiet two years as an underclassman, the beefy back emerged as the greatest runner in Vanderbilt history with dominant junior and senior seasons.

He'll join the Rams for 2013, a team with an unsettled backfield now that mainstay Stephen Jackson has moved on to the Atlanta Falcons. Stacy will have the opportunity to earn snaps immediately while competing against young backs like Isaiah Pead and Daryl Richardson. The stocky Commodore will give St. Louis a powerful option out of the backfield who can pick up tough yards in pressure situations.

Stacy was the first Commodore selected in 2013's NFL Draft. Fellow classmates Jordan Rodgers, Trey Wilson, Rob Lohr, and Ryan Seymour are still waiting to see if their names will be called. Of that group, Stacy has long been believed to have the best chance to make an immediate impact in the NFL.

Can Stacy earn playing time right away for the Rams? It seems like he ended up in a great situation thanks to Saint Louis's unresolved backfield. He'll still have plenty of work to do, but a strong summer could lead to some surprise starts when the fall rolls around. Stacy may not be the Rams' featured back on Sundays, but he is in a great position to gain valuable experience and hear his name called whenever Jeff Fisher needs someone to grind out a few yards on third down.
