What's new on the MBB recruiting front?
Hi Commodore fans, I'm wondering if anybody has some inside scoop on what Kevin Stallings has going on insofar as recruiting efforts. We all know that the team could very well lose three of the top sixty players in college basketball (Ezeli, Taylor and Jenkins) as well as key role players Goulbourne, Tinsley and Tchiengang. I'm very concerned because Vandy is losing a number of top echelon players and none of the prospects signed thusfar are in anybody's top 100 that I have seen.
What we know so far is that Stallings has German wingman Kevin Bright, AJ Astroth and Nigerian center Arnold Okechukwu in the fold. Of the three Okechukwu intrigues me the most; he could be another Festus Ezeli in the making and sports a 7'1" wingspan as well as good defensive credentials. I've also see where Vanderbilt is talking to #2 Kentucky prospect Darryl Hicks; that notwithstanding there are still some top 150 guys still on the board, notably 6-10 center Phillip Nolan and 6-8 power forward Amile Jefferson.
Next year looks like a pretty big concern for me; anybody have some inside scoop about other prospects the Commodores are looking at?

I haven't heard a peep
The really disturbing thing is this: unless John Jenkins comes back, which would be a miracle at this point, and unless I counted wrong, we got exactly zero points on Saturday night from players who will be here next year.
Flip side of that is that in theory, unless guys drop out or go pro, 2014-15 could be a pretty deep and experienced squad…

I've been wondering the same thing.
I haven’t seen much buzz online about MBB recruiting. Maybe some of the guys here who are “insiders” might have some info, but I’m with you – doesn’t seem to be too much to be excited about.
I guess I assumed with our recent (relative) success, we would find more success on the recruiting trail. Maybe the departure of our best recruiter to the Garden State has something to do with it.

Pretty quiet on the recruiting front right now
But keep in mind two of the key members of his 2008 class – Tinsley and Taylor – were late additions. Tinsley decommitted from Pepperdine and I can’t quite remember Taylor’s status…but they both came pretty late.
Nolan and Jefferson are pretty big longshots right now. I’d be surprised if either chose Vandy since Rivals doesn’t even have them on the radar. Stallings is going to have to hustle to fill his scholarship slots this year. My guess is that we’ll get some low 3-star guys and depend on Moats, Siakam to put in work this summer (why did we burn Moats’s redshirt, again?)

Little curious about that myself
I just assumed it was a panic move once Ezili AND Hendo went down, thinking we’d need size. We’ve seen so little of the bench this year that it’s going to be strange to roll Hendo and Siakam and the like out next year (as God is my witness, until that dunk I clean forgot Siakam was on the team).

There was one rumor about a 2012 prospect I heard today
Someone on Twitter said that a European SG, Mislav Brzoja, who has gotten a lot of Northwestern talk recently, is not as sure a deal for them as expected and that Vandy and Utah are strongly in the mix.
He’s in Indiana, but since he’s European he’s not rated that I’ve seen in any of the systems.
But for the most part looks like we’re more planning on looking ahead to 2013. Lots of big names out there and we’re supposed to be pushing hard on some of these guys. Also working ahead on some local guys for 2014.
Yeah, it looks like we already offered one of Drew Maddux's kids for 2014...
that reminds me, isn’t it about time for Drew Maddux to have a kid to come play for us? Gotta keep that streak alive…

Two Big names for the 2014 class:
Jalen Lindsey and Jake Allsmiller. Both at CPA and both have Vandy offers. Jalen is already a top 100 prospect. They would be two really big gets. But as for anything before that, I do not know.
I don't suppose Jake Allsmiller
is related to Brian Allsmiller. I think he played at Vandy in the late 70s or early 80s.
