Superstion??
Given that the last five times I have clicked on a Vanderbilt related poll we have lost (3 basketball, 2 football) I have decided to never click one again.
Superstitious nonsense, or doing everything it takes for my team to win? [Discuss]
Well I'm rolling the dice
I am actually at home and in front of a computer for once. If we are getting run out of the gym at halftime I reserve the right to throw the breaker on the entire house and drive into the mountains somewhere.

I am currently taking a break from drinking, so I hope Sanchez doesn’t go off for 20 again, or I my skull may pop right off my shoulders tonight.

Kikko Haydar vs. Devonta Abron
As a general rule of thumb, we tend to allow some guy with an impossible to pronounce on the first try name go off for way too many points on us. See, Rotnei Clark. Wonder which of these two it is going to be.
Brandon Paul
scored 43 points in a game this season. Illinois has 37 tonight.
How'd they ever hold it to 25

Festus
In the game preview Gottlieb came out and said Festus wasnt a great center. Does he realize were a completely different team with Festus on the floor
Did he define what a greatt center was?
He’s one of the best in college today. He’s not playing as well as he did a year ago, but may get back there. and as stated, he sure changes the complexion of the game when he’s in there.
the last couple games
I’d say he’s been playing at the same level as last year.

Defensively, I'd agree
he’s still not quite there offensively, IMO. But he’s gotten a lot closer, no doubt.

At least we’re not giving up double-digit runs to close the half.
Honestly, maybe I’m still remembering the old Razorbacks or I’m just in the tank for Mike Anderson, but I’m thrilled to be up by 2 at the half in the Hog Pen, especially as slop-and-slapdash as we’ve played. If we can just tighten up, this game is there for the taking.

Jimmy Dykes Paraphrased Half in a Nutshell
- Arkansas fans are never cheering when Vanderbilt scores → Vanderbilt cannot score when Arkansas fans cheer.
- Someone thinks Jeff Taylor is one dimensional.
- Source omitted.
- Logical argument that NCAA sanctions are ridiculously out of proportion.
Arkansas is not shooting well. Our (half court) defense looks to be pretty good. We need to get more rebounds.
I missed the first 10 minutes, not sure what happened with Tinsley, but I’m glad to see that CKS is confindent in Fuller in a close game situation. I had a lot of worry about Fuller, perhaps CKS was just not playing him in order to get Kedren experience.
Kedren and Rod need to either make their outside shots or make better choices.
I was out of the room
But I assume this means he was short on the first one and hit the second one. Am I right?

This is the first time since Cleveland State
That we’ve just had our ass handed to us.
I like Tennessee and Vanderbilt. There aren't many like me, and they're probably better off for it.

We can't get a stop
I like Tennessee and Vanderbilt. There aren't many like me, and they're probably better off for it.
This team has underachieved in every game
Except Marquette.
The problem is
thinking that is going to change

65 pts vs auburn
You think that was this team’s potential? Auburn couldn’t score on a middle school team!
Alabama.
South Carolina
Tennessee

Really? You guys check those team's records and game scores?
Wins – yes. Sure wins – I should hope so. Watching those games and saying they were in the Same world as the Marquette game? No.
Two games with monster leads on the road?
That’s not underachieving.
A game with a 20+ point lead against your arch rivals? Not underachieving.
by Christian D'Andrea on Jan 31, 2012 11:08 PM EST up reply actions
Any conference win by 10+ points is a solid win.
I wouldn’t consider any of those “underachieving”.

I guess this is why vandy's athletic program
Is what it is. Vandy fans take mediocrity as achievement. You should beat all teams with losing records (going into league play) without breaking a sweat. I stand corrected – the Alabama game was up to snuff – minus the last 5 minutes – but who wouldn’t ask brad not to turn the ball over 6 times in that stretch.. Come on people – how do you defend this?
The mediocrity isn't coming in the wins.
It’s coming in the losses. I agree that these suck pretty hard. But those wins, over lower-tier opponents or not, were not the disappointments that you’re making them out to be.

Because we're not the 7th best team in the nation
If you’re still using that as your benchmark then you need to adjust.
Go Harder.
Who chose us as # 7?
It wasn’t a Vandy fan… It was a large group of coaches and press who watched them and evaluated talent. Vandy fans do a good job of accepting that they were overrated rather than underperforming. Let ’em slide baby – it will be better next year, right?
If you still think they're "underperforming"
then you should be excited, because the 7th best team in the country has a better chance in the tournament than the 30ish or so best team. This team has underachieved in some games and overachieved in others. We know who they are, and they’re not going to change very much. That’s better than expecting them to play at the level that some coaches and press thought they would play at after 0 games into the season.
Go Harder.
Fair question...
Do you think they are under-performing? How many more loses can we sustain and make the tournament – I only mention because we have six loses with UK twice, Florida twice, Ole Miss, Georgia and UT on the road. After watching tonight, would you put your closest friend’s life on any of those games?
I think
they are performing at the level that a team of their quality should perform. I expect them to lose to Kentucky twice and Florida on the road. I don’t expect them to lose any other conference games, but I wouldn’t be shocked if they did. That’s how the 30ish best team in the country plays. They win some they shouldn’t and they lose some they shouldn’t.
Go Harder.
You think basketball people think that based on our talent? 30th best talent?
1999-2000 we lost 9 regular season games (as you predict)… More or less talent?
If you think they are lesser than the sum of their parts
then that’s different than saying they’re “underperforming” as a team. They had almost the exact same parts last year as they do this year and were a mid-30s team — did they underperform last year? Did the mere passage of time just make them that much better?
And sheer W-L records aren’t the whole story; this team lost probably 3 games it wouldn’t have because early in the season because it was missing one of its best players.
Go Harder.
I think that is exactly what I mean!
Team = sum of the parts. In fact I propose that team > sum of the parts. Bunch of guys at the Y = sum of the parts. Don’t understand how you can say one should not expect a team to be at least equal to the sum of its parts? Underperforming. ASK VEGAS! What benchmark is acceptable??
By that standard
they also underperformed last year. I’m not saying they should be less than the sum of their parts, I’m saying it’s irrational to expect them to improve that much without adding somebody new or completely changing the way they play.
I know what Vegas thinks. Vanderbilt’s record against the spread this year is over .500. That’s not underachieving.
Go Harder.
If Jenkins wasn't such an ace I'd have sat his ass for the past few plays he's tried to make

Last gasp
JJ just hasn’t had it in the 2nd half.
I like Tennessee and Vanderbilt. There aren't many like me, and they're probably better off for it.
I blame myself.
This is what I get for watching the game live and blog/Tweeting.

Perfect example
of how little effort this team has put in tonight: JT comes down tied up for a rebound and just lets the Arkansas guy take it from him.

Oh come on, man...
By the letter of the law, EVERY foul in the last minute when a team is trying to extend the game is intentional.

Some of them better than others ;]
We’re guaranteed a better day than the other half of the house…I think Mrs. Import the Berkeley alum is about ready to call in a nuke strike on Husky Stadium.

But after their recruiting fiasco, the pacifists are out for blood. Still worth the trip for Zachary’s pizza =)

Microcosm!
Huzzah!
I like Tennessee and Vanderbilt. There aren't many like me, and they're probably better off for it.
Odds are we are not going to win a game this week.
On the bright side, I guess we won’t have to worry about losing to a 12 or 13 seed this year.

That's not to say that I don't think we can beat Florida this weekend.
We can and I hope we do. I think we can beat anybody in the country at the right time/place.

Unfortunately, for us, the road tends not to be that place
And with Fortress Memorial well and truly breached this year, well…
I do think we have better odds against the Gators than we had against Arkansas, for what that’s worth.

We're most definitely not a top 10 team
Not a Final 4 team. Very disappointing at how badly we collectively lost our composure tonight. A vet team should not do that.
Well, its on to FLorida. ANother chance at a quality road win. If we were going to split, that would be the better win to get.
Well I won't be on the internet on Saturday, so we might have a chance...
If you’re in San Francisco, me and the cuz will be drinking HARD in Alembic, which is a $$$ bar in the Haight. Haighters gonna Haight.

Shot 11 percentage points below our average on threes
And still got 1.32 points per trip. That’s something to look at.
