Pretty sparse with ten minutes to tip. The Belle Meade section might have larger numbers right now. Hope the students show. We need a solid crowd.

Doredarling!

As the firstrow link isn’t currently working (though it might not start until the game starts, since it isn’t actually a televised game), I need your magic memphis station link (which one of these days I will actually bookmark).

Is this game on any channel in Nashville?

No, and it's a travesty

A million TV stations on cable and satellite, and no one bothers.

Meanwhile 8-12 UNC-Wilmington vs. 0-22 Towson is on ESPN3.

That's nuts

While JJ is 1-6, 0-4

by vandyjl on Jan 28, 2012 2:29 PM EST up reply actions

MTSU's strength is scoring inside the arc (55% for the season)

They only shoot 28% from 3. If they keep hitting those, we’ll be in trouble. At least the fouls are piling up for them. We absolutely need to hit our free throws in this game if they keep shooting like this.

by KC Commodore on Jan 28, 2012 2:29 PM EST reply actions

vandy needs to stick to the drives

MTSU can’t handle Vandy at the rim. Exploit that until it opens up the three-point shooting.

by Christian D'Andrea on Jan 28, 2012 2:30 PM EST reply actions

Agreed

Get it to Fes. He’s 6-6 from the FT line so just let them foul him…

We're playing well in every facet of the game....

Except defense. 7 offensive rebounds, 12-13 FT shooting, 2 turnovers. Gotta give credit to MTSU, though. They’re shooting at an abnormally high rate, especially from behind the arc.

by KC Commodore on Jan 28, 2012 3:01 PM EST reply actions

Our defense is atrocious.

by vandyjl on Jan 28, 2012 3:06 PM EST up reply actions

Yes. I think taking a lead to the locker room after they shot 61% for the first half and 5-8 from 3 is positive. Clearly MTSU got the memo about needing to make a ton of 3’s today.

I'm only listening.

Is the D really that bad? I got the feeling MTSU was hitting a lot of contested shots. But it is surprising to give up so many first half points. We’ve held 4 of the 6 SEC teams we’ve played to less than 20 in the first.

Anyone think LSU takes down UK today?

UK has been a little sketchy on the road this season, and LSU will be the best team they’ve faced on the road in the SEC thus far. I can definitely see it happening.

by KC Commodore on Jan 28, 2012 3:10 PM EST reply actions

I don't see it.

LSU is average. KY is playing with too much confidence and they can win in too many ways. They can win ugly on the road. I think they’re biggest test will be Feb. 11 and then at Florida.

Kickig

Is illegal, with the penalty assessed on the clock. Time, boundaries, fouling, traveling, double dribbling, goaltending, and kicking are pretty much the only rules. Penalized with points, opportunities for points, or possession change. Kicking usually happens at the fault of the defense, so penalty assessed by theclock.

CONQUER AND PREVAIL

"The polls are nice, but those really aren't lofty expectations. If you consider yourself the No. 4 or No. 5 team in the country, you are basically succumbing to second place."--Tim Corbin, 02/18/2011

Great win!

This will be a solid confidence builder for the tourney. Beat a very good team from a non-major conference who was shooting lights out. Stepped up in crunch time.

I always go first half - coffee, second half - beer, because In LA, the games start at 10:00 a.m.

Yes

“a very good team from a non-major conference who was shooting lights out.”

That is the definition of the kind of team we’ve lost to in the 1st round of the NCAA’s the last 3 times. We responded very, very well. Loved the energy of defense in the 2nd half, especially at the end of the game.

Nice work

From six and a half minutes left and down by 3, we outscore them 19-9. We made 5 layups, 9-10 free throws, 0-0 from three. Good basketball from both teams.

MTSU

In the same stretch got 1-2 lay-ups, 2-2 jumpers, 2-4 free throws, and 0-3 from three.

Whew!

That had a first-round Tourney feel to it…and we got the W. Really, really huge. I thought we played a really good game, and so did MTSU.

Exercise the demons!

Also

We had a great game in a couple of areas we have struggled in a bit:
1. Free Throws
2. Offensive Turnovers

Festus

Not a great day for rebounding, but awesome day offensively. Their only defense was to foul him and he made his free throws.

Shows me...

That he’s got the confidence back in that knee. Going up strong like the good ole days.

Quote of the game

A MTSU fan was sitting in front of me and I happened to snipe a txt he was sending. The text read “Memorial Magic is equivalent to Memorial Referee’s”. After a made basket and an and 1 I muttered “Thats some Memorial magic right there”. He left at the next TV timeout and was never seen again.
