Nevertheless I don’t like being that out of sorts that soon. Hopefully it’s a one-off…

We need some bread-and-butter pound-it-out-on-the-ground
none of the flea-flicker and empty backfield nonsense. And the delayed-give to a tailback 8 yards back is too slow-developing for their front. Just need to play straightforward offense for a series and see what we get…

Both QB's are giving a clinic on:
How to not throw a football.
I always go first half - coffee, second half - beer, because In LA, the games start at 10:00 a.m.
The defense is going to be a big question mark next year with Marve, Hayward, and Fugger all leaving. I don’t know what we would’ve done without those three this year….
And our marquee new additions are on offense, as are the redshirts
Next year could be a “you can score 30 as long as we score 40” year

Wow. The worst half we've played since UConn or USC
1. Rogers can’t hit the broad side of a barn. (And to the idiot who thinks he’s always been this terrible: do yourself a favor and never voice an opinion out loud. He’s a solid middle-of-the road QB who does plenty of bad stuff but a fair amount of good stuff too. He does not typically play like this.)
2. The O line is getting owned. How can they possibly be playing this bad? Is this a good D? Statistically, yes, though against so-so competition. But our O line looked better against Bama’s D and this is not Bama’s D.
3. Defense cannot tackle. The only reason they didn’t score more is they didn’t recognize that they could run at will. He has gotten five to ten yards after the first touch on about half of all the running plays.
4. The D line is getting decent pressure on passes but getting pushed around on running plays. Their RBs have been getting five yards before we first touch them on a lot of downs. And then they run through the tackles. (see point 3.)
If their QB hadn’t been completely out of synch or if the buffoon they have as their coach would have taken time from berating the officials to tweak his O plan toward the run, they’d be up by much more.
by Andrew D. Smith on Dec 31, 2011 5:17 PM EST reply actions
I assume I am the "idiot."
Are you going to sit here and tell me honestly you think Rodgers is a good passer? He has 9 TD’s with 9 INTs on the season. Half his throws have been jump balls today. He makes it with his running game and Stacy which is getting stuffed.

Why didn't Franklin...
…have these unmissable passes worked in by the second quarter to get Rogers on track rather than reserving unmissable passes for Larry?
by Andrew D. Smith on Dec 31, 2011 6:20 PM EST reply actions
He did. Rogers missed them.
I always go first half - coffee, second half - beer, because In LA, the games start at 10:00 a.m.
Remember the one to Boyd that forced Boyd to drop to a knee?
I always go first half - coffee, second half - beer, because In LA, the games start at 10:00 a.m.
I was about to say
I thought Rogers was missing some easy throws
That he did...
…but rather than saying “you can’t try any real throws till you complete three screens in a row,” coach took a QB who missed screens and had him read routes with three receivers running deep.
Larry missed two screens too, but they didn’t think the solution was to dump him into a pro style offense.
Playing with the tempo earlier might also have been an idea.
Perhaps the offense has come around so many times that Franklin didn’t feel the need to tinker with gimmicks. But given how effective the changes have been, it’s a shame we didn’t try them a bit earlier.

That was not just bad luck. That was Larry Smith
Great move to go to him. Once Larry magic died, Franklin had to go back. Larry might be an inspiration to a team that needed juice, but he’s not a QB.
by Andrew D. Smith on Dec 31, 2011 6:56 PM EST reply actions
Besides...
Jordan’s problem appeared to be that he was too keyed up. Sitting on the bench with no prospect of return will cure that, assuming the hip isn’t all that bad.

You are delusional.
If Rodgers starts all next year our ceiling is 6 wins.
by ATLVANDY on Dec 31, 2011 7:05 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
I'm not saying Jordan is truly good...
… but he’s a world better than Larry. He’s an actual QB. Larry is an all purpose back who stumbled into the position. Putting Larry in should have been a ploy to motivate Jordan. Not a real strategy.
Did you not notice how the offensive production doubled when Jordan went in? If you’re seriously making this argument now, you need to stop talking while drinking or, if sober, just stop talking.

Not a one.
Plenty of jobs open for young guys with talent, judging by the way things are going.

The two big plays didn't help us
69 yard run and a 90 yard KR. If we can keep from giving up big plays, we’re (barely) leading. Defense is a much bigger concern for me next year.

How much of the blame should Franklin get?
I say a fair amount. I give him a lot of praise for the many, many things he’s done right this year, but he’s still learning to be a head coach.
1. The guys did not come with the proper combination of fire and calmness that you need to perform. And it was across the board.
2. When things started going poorly, he did not have adjustments in mind. It’s like he never really considered that Plan A might not work. He didn’t really make any adjustments whatever until the second half.
We just played a team from a mediocre league with a half functional QB and lost. Had Franklin been able to bring the team that played Georgia or Arkansas, we’d have won by three touchdowns. Instead, he brought the 2010 Vandy team. He needs to spend serious time thinking about what he did wrong.
I’d agree that he can’t make the tackles himself. But it’s not like just a few players came out without their A game. The whole team did. And that’s generally a coaching thing.
