NCAAT: (3) Illinois St. vs (2) Vanderbilt - Open GameThread
After 13 innings, it's Illinois State 7, Vanderbilt 8. Jack Armstrong drove home the winning run in the bottom of the 13th...Of course he did.

Go 'Dores!
As I just tweeted: This week I’ve grown in appreciation of how bad ISU is. Still sticking to my “high variance” position tho.
Therefore it’s certain I will jinx us and we’re out in two.
Some links from CardChronicle
http://www.cardchronicle.com/2010/6/4/1501373/vanderbilt-to-save-gray-and-other
Haven’t looked at them yet.
At work, and extremely nervous
In the words of Han Solo, I have a bad feeling about this…..
Just embrace the crapshoot
I have no doubt that we’re a better team than ILST but so what? It’s baseball.
And a hit, two on no outs
Embrace the crapshoot!
I wish Stallings were doing radio today
Would be kind of fun given the opponent.
Agree with Joe.
Huge first out.
Also awesome, Joe Fisher on the Louisville webcast. I guess the home team gets the call?
Dammit.
Dropped ball in the outfield…dropped ball at the plate?
2 Errors? One on Connor, one on Gio?
We’re going for the defensive allow cycle here: HBP, hit, walk, error
Oh good.
So I haven’t missed much.
Shitty.

Heh
Perverse incentive for a pitcher to be wild, I guess.
Maybe I should be more emotional
As the beginning of a mess unfolds, I feel like I should react in much the way that the media seems to have decided the President should react to the oil spill fiasco. Show some emotion! Anything!
Meh…. I want us to win, badly, but not only is there nothing I can do to influence it. I truly believe that even our players can only influence it to a certain degree. All it takes is two bad days to be done. All it takes is one bad day to be in the loser’s bracket, fighting uphill and at a huge disadvantage vs. Louisville.
(Yeah, I know people died in the BP mess, but we use terms like disaster and train wreck to talk about sports.)
True
I wish that would happen. At least it would remind people that a short tourney doesn’t demonstrate shit.
ISU's pitchers are garbage
If Vandy can’t get the bats going today, it’s going to be a very short tournament.

I was in the car
The radio cut out. I yelled at my radio. Connor dropped the ball. I yelled at the radio. Safely at the computer now…hoping I don’t have to yell too much more other than in joy!
I'm enjoying the camera angle we've got here
Excellent way to waste my final few days of work in Indiana. Thank you, GameCast.

Let me get this straight
You have a job that pays you while you’re watching VU baseball and you’re unhappy about it? :)
One day
It’ll be getting paid TO watch Vandy baseball. But that’s wishful thinking. For this month, it’s about getting out of Indiana for a better job, although I have yet to breach the topic of watching baseball at work. It may be frowned upon.

Better a job watching VU baseball....

Even loading the bases hurt us
At least they’d have to throw down to first after the strikeout except for the force at home.
Idle prediction
Vanderbilt will come back today [positive thoughts!], but if they don’t, there will be no discussion about Corbin resting the #1 starter next time.
Annnnnd 3 runners stranded...

Any text score updates?
I probably need to get out of the house. And I certainly think hanging around to listen to this is going to depress me. But I don’t have one of those cool 21st century phones with internet and stuff. Anyone know of a way to sign up for text score updates or something?

Hmmm, does Twitter offer a tweets-> text function?
Shame on me for not knowing about it if they do.

Jim Joyce made a terrible call and kept a legitimately perfect game off the books. However, I’m ready for that story to die. Yes, it sucks that Galarraga can’t celebrate one of the rarest feats in baseball, but for people to be this up in arms calling for replay over the last out of a meaningless regular season game absolutely boggles my mind. Sorry…I just had to get that out there.

I never actually left the house yet
But man, it’s nice to have the phone announcing the arrival of text messages with happy news.
I hope not
That analogy would end with ISU erasing a 3-run lead with 2 outs in the 9th via a grand slam.
I wish the pitcher would stop slowing down the game.
I know he’s trying to give his relief some time to warm up…but the throw to first is getting ridiculous.
Drat
I really wanted to hear Timmeh break down the NBA final with VU baseball as a visual backdrop. Oh well.
Picked off
Gio with a great throw to get the runner. Wish we’d gotten out Tokarski instead. He’ll come to bat next inning.
YOUVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME.
Leadoff man on. Espo takes off on the hit and run. Joe fouls it near the first baseman. Flies out. Espo doubled off at first.
CAN WE ALL WRITE IN ALL CAPS FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE GAME?
I say no because it would look obnoxious.

First of all, I agree that SLU is in no way as good as the theoretically 8th-best SEC team.
Secondly, I’m just pulling for the matchup that maximizes our chances. It’s cliche and all, but the team still has to perform.
Smart move by Corbin
Bring up a decent hitter who’s not looking to swing for the fences. I hope the rest of the guys learn something from Big Jack.
