Spittle photoshopped out...

Reminder: This game is a "white out." Vandy fans are encouraged to wear white to the game.

Second place in the SEC East is on the line tonight as Vanderbilt looks to go for the sweep against Tennessee on ESPN's Super Tuesday. Ken Pomeroy gives Vandy a 62% chance of victory (75-72 with a tempo of 73). Unfortunately, kenpom doesn't have a predictor for J.P. Prince backhands, taunts or fouls on 3 point shot attempts. I'd say the likelihood of seeing either is close to 80%. It is a rivalry matchup. And it will be "chippy."

Volunteers vs Commodores coverage

Schedule Breakdown

Not much has changed since the last meeting. Vanderbilt is better offensively. Tennessee is better defensively. Throw the numbers out the window since it's a rivalry game with serious implications.

Star-divide

Statistical Breakdown

Again, the numbers really don't mean much, since it's a rivalry game. Vandy has the edge according to the tempo-free statistics. Keep in mind that individual numbers aren't adjusted for strength of schedule.

Four Factors: Similar to last time, I would expect Vanderbilt to win eFG% and FTRate and for Tennessee to win TO% and OReb%. I think the margin by which Vandy wins eFG% will determine the outcome. I would also imagine quite a correction from the abysmal shooting performance Vandy had against Georgia, which would have to be an encouraging consideration for Commodore fans.

Scary game

For some reason I’m a lot more worried for the Commies for this game than I was for the last one. Probably has something to do with the turd the Dores threw up in the Georgia game. Hopefully they figure it out.

Aside from the game itself, the interesting thing I want to see is how Brian Williams plays and how the Dores handle him. Having a post presence makes this a totally different kind of contest from last time.

Brian Williams

It doesn’t sound like he’ll play versus us. Pearl made reference to the fact that the stress of the situation he went through affected his weight (he’s much more trim — though I would attribute this to his smoking less dope which has given him fewer cravings for munchies).

He hadn’t practiced in five weeks (prior to Sunday and/or Monday, depending on if they had a day off). I doubt he’d be a viable option so soon.

Who knows? They may need the bodies if the refs call this one the way they called it in Knoxville.
