Actual Identified Source in the Know says Franklin to Vandy soon to be "All Wrapped Up"
Lockridge reports in The Tennessean that John Ingram says James Franklin is about to be hired.
Actual quote from actual source, John Ingram:
We’re about to have this all wrapped up.
I guess you never know, especially after the Joe Schad tweet to the contrary literally an hour ago, but for the first time all search we have a legitimate source saying this is almost done.

There has likewise been a Twitter explosion of news.
VandySports.com has a story about the hiring.
Our own Train Island broke the story via tweet that Franklin was on a plane headed to Nashville.
Even Eric Prisbell got in on the action. Credit to him for the scoop two days before it even happened (cough, douchebag).
In other news, when something has actually happened, this is what it looks like. Multiple people break the story in succession. Not just one person standing by a totally wrong story for 24 hours. (Take note Prisbell, and tell your boy Bonesteel).
Still no word from Joe Schad, which seems odd given how connected he was to the story.
I’m sure more is to follow from AoG’s actual writers.
Dear James Franklin,
Please keep Herb Hand!

Rec'd for abject pathos.
Obvs I concur in every particular…although I’m also a little curious how Herb Hand became Malzahn Lite – what’s his track record other than the Tulsa years (which are admittedly impressive)?
"Well, if that ain't a show, I'll kiss your ass." - Gov. Jim Folsom Sr. (D-AL), 1948-52
Prior to Tulsa
he coached at West Virgina under Rich Rodriguez. Rodriguez runs a no huddle spread offense as well. He may not have written the book, like Malzahn did, but he understands it and implement it at Vanderbilt. This is an article from when Herb Hand came to Vanderbilt
Good lookin' out
I admit I have wondered why we’re not running a wishbone with Norman/Stacy/Tate…
"Well, if that ain't a show, I'll kiss your ass." - Gov. Jim Folsom Sr. (D-AL), 1948-52
This article in the NYT gives you an idea how respected he is in the spread offense community.
The guy was Malzahn’s co-coordinator at Tulsa, and Brian Kelly would fly into Tulsa just to watch film with him for hours.
He’s got some cache (more than anyone else we could get for OC, and when it comes to actually running an offense, probably more than LCJF.*
*The L stands for likely.
Also, look at the jaw on this guy

He seems like the nicest guy on earth on Twitter, but he looks like he’d be terrifying in person.
Well, if he can implement it here and make it go, I'm all for it
I just want to see something happen out there…

Hilariously
In an update of the original story in the Tennessean, Franklin says:
I don’t know where you could have gotten that information. I hope to meet you at some point, but I have nothing to confirm for you at this point.
He doesn’t deny it, he just sounds shocked that someone talked about it. Judging by his “I hope to meet you at some point,” he’s either a big Lockridge fan, or he is, in fact, coming.
More Delaying from Vandy...
From their Facebook profile:
Vanderbilt fans, we want you to be the first to get the official news on the new head coach of the Commodore football team. Once we have the confirmed information, we’ll post it here. Stay tuned!
They waited till the end of finals week, so none of the students care anymore. Well, most of the students don’t care anymore. The dedicated ones like myself are still on pins and needles. This has just made finals week even more stressful.
Vanderbilt
Hell, I'm not
Not often you get this caliber of performance art outside an EDSBS gameday thread ;]

I'm just waiting for the relationship status change
Why haven’t we been constantly updated with the “it’s complicated” option between David Williams and Gus/Franklin/Roman/Leach/fill in the blank?
Seriously, everyone would be okay with a presser…this facebook stuff is a bit out of control.

In talks with four other Maryland assistants...
I wonder which ones. I also wonder if this is bad news for Herb Hand.
I've had a bad feeling all along
That he wouldn’t keep Hand, at least not at OC.
You figure someone who’s been gunning for HC like Franklin (and who seemed to be so close when he got his HCIW) probably had coordinators in mind a while ago.
Still, I’m going to be disappointed nonetheless if he doesn’t keep Herb.
Maybe...
I’m somewhat befuddled by the love for Hand. He’s the teflon guy from last year’s staff – perhaps fairly since it was his first year, but perhaps unfairly since he still was a coach with responsibilities. He supposedly was our O-line coach, yet the O-line was the worst unit on a terrible offense. People seem convinced that he was deprived of input by Caldwell, Kiser, and Kitchings; however, that seems based on hunch more than fact. I’m aware of his past record with talented bosses, but I’m not ready to annoint him the savior of our offense, especially after last year.
The offensive line was decimated all year
Before the season even started, Vandy lost five OL for various reasons. Three of those were projected starters. The line was down to six or seven available players the last half of the year. At that point, I don’t think it much matters who’s coaching them; they’re worn out. That’s why I’m willing to give him a pass.
Not sure on all four, but two are likely Charles Bankins and Lee Hull
Bankins (special teams/TEs) and Hull (WRs) were brought in by Franklin. They also happen to be the two most promising position coaches on Maryland’s staff. Bankins’ coaching is meh, but he’s a solid recruiter. Hull is a very good WR coach and Maryland’s second-best recruiter after Franklin. I was hoping he’d get a shot at being OC in the bowl game.
Past that, I don’t know who’d leave. They’re all Friedgen guys. If I had to guess, I’d say it’s a possibility that Franklin gives Al Seamonson (LB coach) the DC job. Most at Maryland wanted him to become DC when it opened up a few years ago, but they went with an external hire.
What's your opinion on Seamonson?
Like him? Hate him? Would be be a decent DC?

Seamo has done very well with the 'backers
Since he arrived, Maryland’s linebackers have been among the best in the country. Almost every linebacker that’s come through the program has seen progression since they arrived, usually more than expected. LBs have been the team’s best unit year in and year out since Friedgen’s arrival, and Seamo has a lot to do with that. He did receive some help from the DCs in his first six years or so (it was Blackney’s and Cosh’s pet position), so keep that in mind. Still, just about everyone in the program has a positive opinion of him and holds him in very high regard.
In terms of playcalling, he’s only called one game in his career (the bowl game two years ago against Nevada). He was very average – didn’t make any huge mistakes, but wasn’t some kind of schematic genius. I guess his inexperience there makes it a little risky. All in all, he’d be a pretty solid hire. Not a home-run, but I wouldn’t complain.
That said, I just received some very interesting information about why the assistants will be leaving. Without going too much into it, I wouldn’t be surprised if some of them, even outside Hull and Bankins, got out of Dodge and happily took lateral jobs at Vandy it. If you can get Seamo as a LB coach, be very happy.

Thanks.
Sounds like Seamo is similar to Franklin – a good record developing his skill players, not as much with playcalling. I’d be happy with getting him to Nashville as LB Coach.

Fire DW.com
This sucks!! I am giving up my season tickets and I too will hope against hope that somehow this turns out to be a good hire.Go Mocs. My new favorite team.
I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take it anymore. I am going to lunch today in Chattanooga with some VU alums and we will be starting a push to get DW fired.
Ken Niumatololo was interested...
Another tidbit for the anti-Franklin crowd (of which I’m a member): Navy’s Ken Niumatololo told a Knoxville radio station yesterday that he was “intrigued” by the Vandy job.
Again, why did we pay this high priced recruitment firm? If they can’t identify guys like Niumatololo who runs a great program at a freakin’ service academy as being the type and quality of coach Vandy needs, what were their criteria?
Navy’s triple option would have a better chance of success at Vandy than Franklin’s preferred “West Coast Offense,” I would think.
LOR
"He is a first class coach, and a perfect fit for a university like Vanderbilt. He’s a tremendous motivator of men, and inspires character in each of his players. He works really hard to be the best that he can be as a coach, and has the toughness to build up a program in the SEC. He will no doubt be a great representative of Vanderbilt University," Morris said.
Pretty good letter of rec from a newly successful NFL coach.
