The football team is mired in the swamp of dreadful. Meanwhile, the basketball team's prospects for this season (and even the future) burns with the brightness of a thousand suns. We are at a crossroads: is it time solely to factor the basketball program during the next few weeks as football winds down, or should the FCP reflect our excitement of the football program? I shall leave the decision up to the unerring and wise AOG readership.

Need to support Vandy players regardless of the sport

I am absolutely amazed at how hard our football players kept fighting till the bitter end, and even scored at the end. They deserve our continued support and respect. I cannot imagine saying that because we aren’t winning, we shouldn’t care about these young men. I strongly believe that we must support them. I will very disappointed in you if you stop covering them. Anger towards the administration and coaches shouldn’t be directed at the players. I am sure that they players visit this site. Please,please continue football coverage. Btw, the espn contract extension is wrong. No new contract. Espn had a bad story.Go Dores!

The question related only to the Fan Confidence Poll. Do we really need a poll to tell us that nobody has any confidence in our football team? The only reason the results aren’t lower is that people accidentally vote for 50 (happened to me earlier in the year) if they click too soon. Conversely, opinions on the basketball team are generally positive, but more wide-randing. Some think this team will challenge for the SEC championship and make a deep run in the NCAA Tournament, while others think it will struggle to even make the Tournament.

Further, supporting Vanderbilt football ain’t exactly supporting the troops. These young men fighting til the bitter end get full scholarships to one of the best university’s in the country. The fact that their jerseys have Vandy written across the chest does not mean that we need to waste four hours every Saturday watching them get the shit kicked out of them, only to spend the following week discussing the thoroughness of the beating the following. The students have figured long since figured that out, but we alumni are more stubborn.

Why should we care about a 2-7 football team more than the women’s tennis team? Perhaps we need more coverage of women’s tennis. They not only score meaningless points at the end of matches, but they win too (http://vucommodores.cstv.com/sports/w-tennis/recaps/110610aaa.html).
