JT Report

If he’s suffering from an ankle injury, it isn’t apparent. Multiple dunks in warm ups. Of course, he could just be that badass.

So ready for this

In the interest of killing the final 15 minutes:

Vandy pasted UAH by 36 last year, 91-65, but UAH was a different team. They were young and started the year 5-3. Then they gelled and won 18 of the next 20.

This year they’ve only lost 2 players (1 starter), and are preseason Division II Top 20. They really have no stars, even for D-2; none of their players averaged more than 11.6 points a game. They did hold opponents to 41% from the field, but that may be as much a function of playing in D-2 as anything.

They’re probably good enough to hang with someone like a Grambling or TSU for a while. Interestingly, the computer ratings I looked at had UAH a 7-point favorite over Presbyterian, Vandy’s real opener. I’ll pick the Dores by 22.

And here we go.

Got the official AOG prediction on there

Kyle Fuller for 6-2-2.

Nice to have you back, Brian.

Little bit of a run now

Jenkins hits a 3, Tinsley adds 5 straight, and VU jumps ahead 21-12.

JT 1-1 from deep

An encouraging sign. If he starts drilling 3s he’s a lotto pick.

Good to see Jenkis

filling the stat sheet. Of course, he probably has a considerable athleticism advantage over UAH’s guards, that he won’t always have. Still, nice to see …

Exhibition Rotation

Stevie/Lance/Odom/Fuller off the bench. A healthy Darshawn will probably fill that out once the regular season starts.

Is D-Mac out tonight?

Not sure what to expect out of him … Stallings like seniors, but we have a lot of talent where he plays.

Sorry, missed the update ...

@Dmac2134 in street clothes tonight. Hope he gets back to 100% soon…

Taylor 4-4 from the line

Nice start.

And Festus 3-5

I’ll take it.

Who would’ve guessed Taylor and Ezeli would have a higher FT% than Jenkins, but Jenkins would be outblocking them both 3-2?

Everyone who has played has points.

Just finished moot court arguments

Sounds like time for a ball game.

Liking all the freshman. Love the pace of Fuller. Odom will be a big help at the 4. Also liked the short look at Henderson, nice finesse post move and looked good on some inside out passing (already seems like better hands than Ogilvy)

by The Goche on Nov 3, 2010 9:38 PM EDT via mobile reply actions

Hendo's an interesting freshman

If he can chip in 10 minutes again without getting toasted on D he’ll big a key part of this team in 2010-2011.

I was actually thinking he might get redshirted.

And that’s an interesting question: which freshman will get redshirted after the next exhibition. Freshmen can play the exhibition and still redshirt. So I was wondering if a guy like Henderson, who could probably benefit from bulk (not to mention a guy who’s likely to play out his eligibility) might get the shirt.

Would Siakam be a red-shirt candidate?

I guess we might not have much choice but to play these kids as thin as we are at the 5, esp if we ever want to also go big at the 4.

by The Goche on Nov 3, 2010 10:56 PM EDT up reply actions

Siakam is the most likely candidate

Just because we’ve got so much depth at the 3/4 and Henderson is one of 2 guys that can play true center – and the other is a foul magnet.

“Bamba” came to Vandy in part for the academics as well, so he’d probably be the most likely guy to enjoy a 5th year in Nashville. He graduated from HS a year early, so that may factor in as well. I think it’d go

Siakam
Hendo

as far as redshirts this season, with Odom/Fuller playing right away and DMac taking the year off as well.

CKS on Darshawn McClellan

In the postgame, he said that DM has asked to red-shirt this year, and as a returning player, he is not eligible to play in exhibitions if he red-shirts. No more details given.
