The bouncing ball, though, is how their paths initially crossed, with Stallings inquiring about some of Bob Jones High's offensive sets while recruiting former Patriots star Jordan Howell. Then-coach Dan Bell referred Stallings to Acuff, whose variation of the Princeton offense - featuring endless screens, backdoor cuts and a steady stream of 3-pointers - he soon adopted.

"I tell him all the time he helped save my job," said Stallings, who went 11-18 the year before meeting Acuff - his only losing season to date. Indeed, Vandy went to the Sweet 16 the following year, defeating No. 3 seed N.C. State 75-73 on a backdoor play Stallings said, "I got directly from Lennie."
